Early in the week the members and officers of the Marydel Fire Company made many preperations for the oncoming category 3 hurricane. The Bowers fire company asked if we could provide our marine unit with staffing. On Saturday Marine 56-1 with fire fighter Walls, Poncedeleon, and Lt. Albia. went to assist Bowers and would make and assist the Bowers Fire Company with evacuation of the town. They would not return to Marydel till Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile back in Marydel crews started staffing the station at 6:00pm. The Ladies auxiallary provided many meals. As the storm progressed evacuees started coming to the Marydel Fire Company as a shelter. We took in approximately 135 people. During the height of the storm we ran several calls for trees down, wires and tree on fires, and wires down. On Sunday we were able to survey the area to find Marydel was now an island. The hurricane left the area flooded, wet and with minimal damage. The crews remained staffing apparatus thru Monday.
